Best Cards for Overseas Spending: Avoid Foreign Exchange Fees
Overseas spend usually carries a ~3.25% FX fee plus poor exchange rates. Most miles cards still charge that fee — but they earn miles on top. To remove the FX fee entirely, pair a miles card with a multi-currency wallet like YouTrip or Wise.
| Card | Overseas miles | FX fee |
|---|---|---|
| UOB PRVI Miles | 2.4 mpd | ≈3.25% (earns miles) |
| YouTrip / Wise (prepaid) | None | Near mid-market |
| HSBC TravelOne | 2.4 mpd | ≈3.25% (earns miles) |
Tip
Always pay in local currency, never let the terminal convert to SGD — dynamic currency conversion hides a worse rate.
